If you're looking for a charming ice cream shop with real ice cream then this is your place. Located on the main strip of Ancaster on Wilson street, slightly tucked back from the street, this ice cream shop serves 30 flavours of Hewitt's ice cream including goats milk ice cream, sherbet and frozen yogurt.
They have a lovely hutch filled with glass jars holding a variety of different toppings. I ordered an ice cream sandwich with fresh house made cookies. I choose the brownie cookie filled with Coffee Cream and Fudge ice cream ($5). The cookie was decadent and moist and the ice cream was creamy and smooth and not too sweet. I tried my husbands' Peanut Butter Chocolate ice cream ($4.25) which was delicious as well. It had huge chunks of straight peanut butter, which for my husband was heaven, but was a little too much for my liking.
The shop is decorated very nicely with beautiful chandeliers and vintage furniture. It looks like a converted shed or garage from the outside with plastic panels covering the large opening instead of a traditional door. There are several benches outside (no indoor seating, so go when its a nice sunny day) and lots of wooden purple pony's for the kids to play on. Prices were a touch up from what I'd prefer to pay for ice cream, but it was very yummy and locally made and the shop was really pretty so maybe it was justified.

Love that they support another local business, maybe one of the last few places making on site ice cream with local ingredients, Hewitt's is a staple to southern Ontario. No need to drive out to Hagersville to get their beloved ice cream though. Simply stop by the Purple Pony for your next fix.
